An elite, all-volunteer reconnaissance force of Native and American Soldiers formed in 1943. Handpicked for their skill in tracking, survival, and moving unseen, the Alamo Scouts carried out 110 missions deep behind enemy lines in WWII—without losing a single man.
Their legacy was carved in January 1945, when they joined the 6th Ranger Battalion and Filipino guerrillas to raid the Cabanatuan POW camp. Through stealth and courage, they helped free 513 American prisoners from Japanese captivity. Two Scouts, disguised as local farmers, set up a covert OP just yards from enemy guards—never detected.
In 1988, they were formally awarded the Special Forces Tab, cementing their place in the lineage of today’s Green Berets.
